Could Use Some Advice

I'm not sure where else to post this, so I apologize in advance if this is out of place.

I currently have an Icon on Verizon. Where I work, the only carrier that gets signal is Verizon, so switching is not an option for me. I'm in dire need of an upgrade because my Icon's battery is shot, but the chances of getting a 950XL that works on Verizon appear to be slim to none.

I don't like the idea of going to Android or iOS, but I feel like I really don't have any other choice. If I absolutely had to, I'd probably go with the Note 5. Does anyone have any experience with one of these?

I'm really upset about this because I like Microsoft and would love to support them, and the 950XL has everything I want, but like I said before, switching carriers is not an option.

I know I'm not the only one in this position, so what is everyone else doing?

I have seen a thread recently stating that Microsoft is selling new Icons. So why not just buy another Icon?

I actually thought about it, but if I'm going to drop money on a new phone, I'd like it to be something different. I ended up going with the Note 5. It's ok. I definitely miss Windows, but I'll get over it. Plus if hell freezes over and Verizon gets a flagship W10M phone, I can just sell the Note 5 and put the money towards the flagship.

I think the best thing we can do is wait a few months and see what Verizon does with the 950. I'm in a similar position to you-- no other carrier has good reception in my area, and my Icon is starting to get pretty battered.

I'm going to wait at least two months after the official release of the 950 before making a move. If Verizon hasn't picked up the phones by then, they're hopeless.

I'll be honest, I work there and I'm just gonna play the waiting game. :P Purely speculative on my end, but I don't think we're going to get much news about non-Microsoft devices until win 10 Mobile is fully out.

Your best bet right now would be to grab a 735 or Lancet off contract. Neither are very expensive, they would keep you in the Windows Phone arena, and both support VoLTE. The 735 is $192 and the Lancet is $120. They're very nicely priced as in-between phones. The Lancet is very modestly sized and lacks NFC and wireless charging, so I'd say the 735 is the better of the two.

Neither are as nice as the Icon in pure power. You'd be upgrading in some areas and downgrading in others. It's pretty much a side-grade. :P

I've thought about doing the 735, but I'm just so in love with the camera on the Icon! I returned my Note 5 yesterday. I thought I could deal with Android, but I couldn't. I started having issues where the only solution I could find was "do a hard reset." That's totally unacceptable to me for a phone that was less than two weeks old. So back to my Icon it is--at least for now. Maybe I can find somewhere local that can install a new battery for me...

The HTC One M8 for Windows is still a very respectable windows phone that directly competed with the Lumia Icon. You can pick up the phone for under 200 dollars. Alternatively, you can buy a icon for about the same amount. No need to wait.

Verizon will allow unlimited data users to finance phones as of Nov 15th, 2015. So you can still buy any new windows phone when it arrives on the shelves. :)
