If Microsoft hadn't killed WMC and/or made it a stand-alone product could it have killed Roku, Fire TV and Apple TV? Or even headed them off at the pass.
Think about it.. They could have released a device that only had WMC (and apps for the more recent versions of that device). It probably would have been a little more than the average streaming device but I really think it would have been the ultimate home entertainment product.
They had it. They had a Roku killer YEARS before Roku was a thing. Just imagine how this could have been integrated with Windows Phone, Cortana, Kinect, Band, IoT, even Xbox and PC's.
Here's to something else that could have been...
