Cracked screen

Hi guys,

A couple of days ago, while I was sitting in a restaurant, my Lumia 950 dropped from my pocket. It didn't even make a sound, so I picked it and to my horror, there was a huge square on the screen in something similar to yellow and another part of the screen in a darker color where the touchscreen was not working. There was a part of the screen working and displaying the normal colours, but as time's gone by, the screen has become completely black and there's only a little spot where I can barely see the top of the screen (battery, time...).

My doubt is if it is just the screen that is damaged or there could be something else.

It fell from less than 2 feet onto the ground and, also, at first there was not even a crack on the screen and then slowly different cracks have appeared across the screen.

Just don't know if it is worthy to repair it.

If there are colors on it like you are saying, it sounds like the LCD may have broken. If true, then you will need to replace the LCD/touchscreen assembly. It's not too hard to do, but the trick is finding one these days.

There were colors, but not anymore. Right now all I can see is this

and as you can see there's no colors and the image is totally blurred.

I would probably disconnect and reconnect the LCD connector to the motherboard, just to see if it's loose, causing a weak connection and display. Have you tried varying the screen brightness, or is nothing accessible?

Connect your phone to continuum and see if you are getting a clear image. This way you'll know if just the screen is broken or if the graphics unit or some other hardware is broken.

I can't do anything, I have no access at all.
As I have no knowledge about repairing a screen by myself and taking into account what could cost to have it repaired, I think I'll start looking for a new phone.

Thanks for your help!

seems to me as if the display is broken or partially damaged which is causing the drainage of colors from the screen. This will cost a fortune if the whole display has to be replaced. there are two layers digitizer and the actual display( amoled ). replacing digitizer is cheap while replacing the display is costly. while in a lot of displays in premium devices you have to replace both digitizer and display once any of the both is affected. why not take the device to an inspection at the Microsoft service center and let them make a quote on how much will it cost

A good idea is to buy a bad IMEI Lumia 950 on Fleabay and swap out the screen, cheaper that way than actually buying a new LCD assembly. Also PM gordonfink and see if he can help you out.
Cheers!

If you have the possibility try connecting to an external screen via continuum. That way you can be sure it's the screen or another part of the system that is broken.

Thank you all guys, one of my friends has the Dock so I'll give it a shot. I've also been checking where I could send it to repair since I don't feel like doing it by myself.

thanks again!
