I'm loving the look of the 8X and the curve gives the illusion of it being a lot slimmer than it is

but, when resting on a flat surface surely it's going to rock if you're putting any pressure on the edge of the screen, possibly even when trying to press the three hard keys too?

Wow, never crossed my mind. I can't help but think it would be a quirk. Oh well, I'm sure it won't be much of a hindrance.

I have the same concern for the 920, which due to apps will likely be my phone of choice. Like many I read a lot off my phone on flat surfaces. These curved backs are not going to make that as pleasant as an experience as it is now.

Hopefully it is not that bad. I am actually going to ask to hold a phone before I purchase to check this out.

It appears that the edges round up towards the front, but there is still ample "flat space" on the back where I bet this won't be a problem.

It's the same as with all the Nokia Lumia devices. They are tapered toward the edges, but lay flat on a surface.

Try holding a phone with a curved back, then holding one with a flat back. $5 says you'd like the one with the curved back more ;)
