Custom notification sounds

I have a set of short mp3s that I want to use as notification sounds for applications. I cannot figure out where to put them so they will show in the sounds list for app notifications. I tried putting them in the ringtones folder, moved them to music, documents, downloads, pictures but they never show in the list... What am I missing?

I think there is a requirement of mp3 less than 30 seconds and a certain size the file can be.

Well I have a tone that I downloaded using Zedge that is showing in the list. It is 12 seconds long and around 200KB. All the mp3s that I am trying to use are less than 5 seconds long and less than 50KB.

You should use the app for W8/desktop then.

Just tried removing them from the phone and copied them back to ringtones folder. And now they show. Probably a bug in 8.1
