default speakers

Since I switched to windows 10, it has become very difficult to figure out how to switch between my computer's regular speakers and headphones. I am frustrated because on the old system it was easy--i set the default to "headphones" and when they weren't plugged in, I was able to get the computer speakers. Now I seem to have to reset the default every time. And it is no longer easy to figure out how to reset the default: I can't locate speakers in the default list. So I have two complaints: figuring out how to change the default is much harder than it used to be, and second, why doesn't it assume the computer speakers when I don't have the headphones plugged in?

Isn't the default behaviour that the sound automatically goes to headphones when plugged in and through speaker when not plugged in? Why did you have to set it as default in the first place? I'm curious about that

Can you check for driver updates for both speaker and headphones in device manager?
