Deleting Temporary Files

Hey everyone!
So today I tried deleting 1.09GB of temporary files.... I tried in the morning, but I saw it was taking long, so I stopped it and did it again later. I left it for 2.5 hours and yet it was still going.... I needed my phone so I stopped it.
My question is: Is it normal that it takes this long?

Mine didnt't seem to be working in the background... When I pressed the home button or back, or switched to an app, it stopped the process.

I am also having a problem with this temp files. It said that it deletes temp files in background but I have been deleting temps files for almost a month and I can't really free my temp files. Reformat is my only solution for this.

Change the date on the phone to 3-4 months ahead, now try to delete the temp files, check back after a couple of mins, the temp files would be reduced drastically

Thanks! It worked, I had like 1GB of temporary files, now it went down to 42MB! Thanks for your help.
