Developers given access to SD card?

Hello everyone! I'm a frequent user of Pocket File Manager, and UC Browser. Recently I was invited to UC Browser's beta (yeah I was excited xD), and Pocket File Manager received an update, allowing it to write to the SD card. UC Browser beta has this feature as well.. Is this something new to developers and MS just opened up? Or what?wp_ss_20140222_0001.pngwp_ss_20140222_0002.png

I was like what the hell when I saw that. Unequal treatment to developers is terrible.

So it's not a public thing then? What the hell?!

not public. it's like some 'nokia partner' got access to your video library while others don't. I don't think things like this happen on ios and android. it leaves a bitter taste.

Could it be somewhat a tease or an early release of what's coming on Wp 8.1.
But yes, it's such an unfair treatment, I understand.

Does this apply to the onboard storage area?
Since my 920 and others don't have cards.

Currently with the App stated on the main post you can access totally as in any other android device but only to the "Pictures" folder.

the biggest problem is you need to purchase it so you can use delete function. LOL

Posted via the WPC App for Android!

The newest pocket files manager and ucbrowser updates are AMAZING!! How did the get full access? We even have access to hi res photos now!! Has this always been accessible?

No it hasn't, and isn't even supposed to be. Very weird. When I saw this posted yesterday I didn't believe it untill I dl'ed the app and checked for myself.
Only to see that indeed they gained full access to the SD card.

So I immediately thought all devs would have been given access to SD folder structures, but allas...
I hope this will be given to all devs soon. It would open some doors.

It's pretty unfair treatment been given to wp8 developers. When will Microsoft give this write SD card write access to other wp8 developers ?

And now that Microsoft realizes the importance to give developers SD card write access; why was it blocked in the first place ?

in WP8.1, you can write to SD Card but not as easy as you would write to OneDrive. Each time you want to write to SD Card, you have to call the new file picker to let the user choose the location and the file name, so apps cannot wipe the whole SD Card.
