Diablo IV: Lore and story we know so far

A look into the future requires studying the past.
Diablo IV is the next big hack-and-slash RPG from Blizzard and while we don't yet have a release window for when it'll be available, there's a lot to read into so far. The reveal trailer for the game was designed to set the tone, a tone of darkness, evil and misery. We also know that the main antagonist is Lilith, which by itself provides a fair bit of context for the story of the game.
