Disable all cellular data other than facebook?

Is there a way to disable all internet access other than facebook?
The reason I ask is facebook is free with my plan, but all other data is charged at 5c/mb ...
If I just leave data on, background applications such as whatsapp, and mail will start using it up.

I have heard there is an option on android that allows you to restrict background data on cellular networks and not limit foreground usage when you open an app, similar option on windows 8?

I don't know about, nor care about Android but I do not believe there is a way to do this with a WP. My advise would be to turn off celular data and only use WiFi.

I think, not really sure how it works, but you can utilize data sense, meaning set it to restrict background data - secondary options are, when im near the limit, and always - so choose always. maybe it could work. I have this option on my 920 gdr3.

new update from whatsapp seems to let you disable the background agent. but yet even when all apps are blocked, the push notification system will still be working. so I guess you are better of by taking a look at Data sense.

Maybe look for a firewall in the market?

I use droidwall on android to block internet access to all the apps that have no reason to access it.

I could see an alternative.. Put the phone on Batterysaver...
the App will be able to get Internet when you open it.. and no other thing will get it..
its the Best you can have now on WP

interesting scenario, no you there is not a setting that you can toggle to achieve your desired effect in WP but you could achieve the same results as follows

1. go into settings and disable ALL background tasks
2. remove all apps live tiles from your start screen
3. uninstall all apps you had pinned to your start screen and then reinstall apps
4. reopen apps and deny background tasks and live tile features
5. go into settings for email and change the update frequency to daily and uncheck sync email ( then remember to check your email at least once a day when your on WiFi ) or remove all email accounts and check your email through a web portal using IE when needed
6 change your settings in your calendar app so all calendars are off

this would be a bit of a pain but it would dramatically reduce the amount of data your phone uses in the background coming CLOSE to your desired effect, you might also want to turn off auto upload for pics and change the settings of the auto backup to minimize data use, this of course renders your phone to essentially a feature phone rather than a smart phone but you have to determine what is most cost effective for you

this isnt a bad idea, of course it would also prevent automatic facebook updates, he really has no good method to achieve his desired result

wasnt aware that data sense had that ability, I'm on AT&T and they don't allow data sense on their network, good to know, thanks for the heads up

Not sure about it. have heard people complaint about not receiving WhatsApp notifications because of it. try it and find. Datasense blocks background data when Limit is reached
I would recommend you to try the Battery saver too. disalble brightness change on battery saver

You're not going to be able to get what you want. You can either turn off all data (turn off cellular data in settings), or turn it all on. Even turning off background agents will not accomplish what you want. If for no other reason that even the facebook through the people hub does not go to facebook.com, so your "free facebook data" plan is going to charge for it. What happens is that your Microsoft account aggregates your social networks that are set up connected to it. Microsoft grabs the data from facebook, twitter, and LinkedIn, stores it in your Microsoft account, and when the phone does a pull, it pulls from there, rather than doing a separate pull from each of those networks. Since your phone will be going to Microsoft and not facebook, I believe your free facebook won't work.

I could be wrong on all of this - and for your sake, I hope I am - but to the best of my understanding, this is how the phone handles facebook, twitter, and LinkedIn - at least the integration with the People hub. In the facebook app, I have no idea. I'd have to guess it goes to facebook's network.

I think I havent seen that option. I set LIMIT the first time itself

yes the option is shown, but I'm on gdr3, so I'm not sure about other versions.

maybe, it should be in settings/ under applications tab> data sense. it even has restrict data when roaming only.
