Disable Lockscreen While Playing Music?

I like to listen to music from my phone when driving in my car. I have the phone on a stand and plugged into the car charger, and I would like to disable the lockscreen while the music is playing so that I can easily see what is playing and skip tracks without being too distracted from driving. If my screen locks, I have to actually enter my password to unlock it, which is not safe while driving. I was able to keep the screen on with my Zune when it was plugged in. However, on my WP8 phone I can't find any way to disable the lock screen while music is playing (and the phone is plugged in). I have tried multiple music apps (XBOX Music, Nokia Music, Pandora, Slacker...) and can't seem to find one that will disable the lock screen. Is anybody aware of an app that allows you to disable the lock screen while playing music? Thanks.

If you want to change track, just press the volume up button and the track list will display the buttons. Or you could manually setup your lock screen timeout to never when in your car

Once the screen turns off, to change tracks I have to push the power button and then the volume button to bring up the music options at the top of the screen, and then push for next track. Pushing the two physical buttons can be distracting (and not so easy when the phone is in the cradle), so it is not really the safest thing when driving. Also, I would just like to easily see what is playing at any time without pushing any buttons.

The idea of changing the lock screen settings to never turn off makes sense, but doing that manually each time I get in the car would be a hassle. Does anyone know if I could program an NFC sticker to automatically change the lock screen setting (i.e., it is set to never when near the sticker, and my normal setting otherwise)? If so, then I could do that and put the sticker on the cradle in the car.

The cleanest approach for me would be for the music app to have an option to disable the lock screen, but I guess not enough other users see the need.

I agree with the original poster. I would love this to happen automatically when music is playing. The NFC idea seems promising. I hope that is the case.

Yes i must admit i'm not a huge fan of the lock screen, i wish there was an option to just disable the thing altogether. It is a pain when playing music, and then to even get the controls up you still have to have the screen come up again.

Some people say that there's a 'never' timeout option for theirs, but that's not there on my 820. I don't know if it's universal across the models, but my lock screen dims after like one second, and then turns off not long after, get's a bit frustrating really.

according to a headline a few weeks ago, an update should brig that for all users :)

in WP8 the music controls appear right away after the unlock button, at least that's the case with my 920. Let's wait for the double tap to wake function :)

As a follow up for those who were interested, I found two music apps that let you disable the lock screen - CarTunes and NowPlaying. CarTunes in particular has a very simple interface to control the music while driving, which seems safer. The only issue is that they seem to only work when playing music that is stored on the phone. They don't work as an overlay or control if you are streaming music from Pandora or Nokia Music, for example. Either way, they are good apps, although someday I'd like to see my favorite streaming apps also have an ability to disable the lock screen.

By the way, I tried the NFC sticker approach, and the best I can do is have it programmed to take me to the lock screen settings page, where I can then manually switch the lock screen timer to never. Only a very slight hassle improvement over going there manually.

I have exactly the same problem and its so annoying...when i drive i want to flip through music...and the screen lock keeps coming on and i have to select the power button to re activate the screen...the choices we have in settings are 30 secs to 5 minutes.

music applications on the lumia should have a disable screen lock option

i tried searching the aps on the app seacrh for CarTunes and NowPlaying and i get no results or they dont show up in the list
