Do you still like your Tilt?

Looking at the Tilt as an alternative to the Treo 750 and was pleasantly surprised at the feel of the device when I went window shopping earlier today.

For those who have been using the Tilt for a while, I'm curious, still like it? How well is the call volume and signal strength? Any issues with the slider? Any issues with operating it one handed?

I think the slider and touch dial pad will be the biggest things to get used to if I go this route. Size wise, it's only a smidgen thicker than the 750 and a touch narrower.

I'm either going to stick it out with the 750, hoping the WM6 update gets here soon, go with the Tilt or get a BBerry Curve. Only draw back to the BB is the additional cost for service.

I got my Tilt when it first came out (as a Tilt) in October. It's been an awesome experience. It's a 'powerful' machine! GPS, Wi-Fi, 3-Megapixel camera, etc.

The slider keyboard works quite fine. It's really great especially when composing SMS and emails.

The 'touch dial pad' - I believe you're referring to the touchscreen dial pad - works great. Obviously it cannot beat a 'real' keyboard that gives you tactile feedback.

The signal strength is great. Call volumne is good. The speaker phone volume, or more appropriately the quality, is a bit 'scratchy'.

Overall I am very pleased with the Tilt experience.

Got to be honest, the more I use the Tilt, the more I really like this phone. It took awhile, bascially to get over it not being as easy a one-hand device. But through some custom apps and cabs, it is much closer to a one-handed device - which is awesome. I still have my beloved Treo in the drawer and haven't sold it yet (I feel like I am leaving my wife - sad I know)...but that time is getting closer and closer.

I received my Tilt within the first week of their release, having used a Treo 750 previously. I still miss the easy one-handed use of the Treo, but in all other ways I'm happy with the Tilt.

Just one thing - in practice, I don't like the slide out keyboard. I find that I either use the stylus on the screen or slide out the keyboard, tilt the screen, place the unit on a table, and use a separate Bluetooth keyboard. Note that I can write by tapping on the small on-screen keyboard faster than I could by pressing the keys on my 750.

I'm one day into my Tilt. So far so good. Have not had heavy road use yet though. My biggest concerns surround the one handed dialing issues. We'll see how it goes. I just installed Voice Command to help. Now if I could only get VC to work well with my Bluetooth headset...

Make the unit more usefull - get Viigo

One of the things I love on my Tilt is Viigo (free from http://virtualreach.com/). I can quickly see my local weather, the news highlights, tech highlights from a few sources, and even the "joke of the day."

I like my 8925 (Tilt) and my girl also has the Tilt as well. I had the 8125 before the Tilt and there's some features that's change around that I had to get use too and I'm still trying to get use to it still. I think the Tilt is better than the Iphone.

What I thought they probably would of added is in the contacts they would have a Mobile 2 area in the contacts cause I know more people with two cellphone numbers than house numbers.

I like the Tilt more now than when I got it. This is mostly because it's my first WM device after 7 years of using Palm OS. It took several months to get the OS set up the way I like, and to get efficient at using it. Now that I'm not frustrated by being slow at performing basic tasks, I'm really appreciating what the hardware can do.

I love having wifi, and I'm very happy with the data speed (I just switched from Verizon). I didn't care about GPS as a feature, as it's not something I've ever used before, but it's fun to play with. I want to use it with Google Maps and Live Search so I don't have to input my location before searching, but I find it takes about 10 times longer to wait for the GPS to get the location (if it ever does) than to just type it in. I think it will be more useful in the summer when I work out of town and have to drive.

I love the keyboard. I have very small hands so I never minded the Treo, but the Tilt feels absolutely luxurious. It's a little more of a pain to have to slide it out, but I'm not annoyed by it. I wish the screen redraw was a little faster when switching orientation. Basically my only complaint is with the lack of video acceleration. I have some video files that are very choppy, but most of all I'm disappointed that even with no apps running in the background, the UI is very sluggish for such a powerful device. I hope HTC will release an update for improved video support. I'm not sure if the lack of video drivers also causes the camera to take worse pictures, but I'm a bit disappointed in the camera as well.

This is my first HTC device, and while I have thought some of their devices seemed a little cheap, I'm very impressed with the build quality. The device feels very solid, and I don't have any concerns about wear and tear. The sliding and tilting mechanism is very smooth and doesn't feel like it's likely to break.

I think that if you can get used to the siled out (or on screen) kb, then you would be good to go. I went from a Treo to a Q and the Tilt/Mogul form factor was too much for me. I really got used to the thinness of the Q - and thus the thickness of the Mogul was too much. But if I had changed directly from the Treo it would have been no big deal (I think).

That's how it was for me. As phones go, the Tilt is huge, but coming from a Treo 700p, it's actually smaller. The Tilt being more of a complete rectangle feels chunkier than the Treo, but it's only about a mm taller than the Treo, not even counting the antenna, and a little bit thinner. It feels a bit heavier, but overall I think depending on how you carry it, it will feel the same or maybe a little smaller than a Treo.

Ok ok, I'm lying. I still can get used to the slider form factor. That really the only knock I have against it. I am consistently surprised at how good battery life I can squeeze out of it despite the relatively tiny battery.

Did you mean "can't"? That was tough for me too - I actually tried the Mogul because I wanted a better kb - but at the end of the day, it was just not as convenient to use as my Q - and the call quality on the Q was better which is most important to me. Yes, I actually use my WM/PDA as a PHONE! And the fact that YOU, with all of the choices you have, like a SMARTPHONE best, well, that just made my day!

I don't have anything empirical to back it up, but I feel like smartphone/standard edition does a better job managing memory, too.
