Does the SP3 pen work on a broken digitizer?

I just bought a SP3 on ebay and it has a broken digitizer. Does anyone have experience using the pen on a SP3 with a broken digitizer? I can't get mine to work.

The pen needs to have a working digitizer because the digitizer records where the pen touches the display.
If you would have a crack in the digitizer than the pen still may work in a part of the screen.

Why do iPhones work with cracked digitizers but other devices, like the SP3 do not?
