Double wide contact picture

I hope this is simple and I'm just a dummy. I have a perfect picture (size, framing, etc) for double wide contact. However, when chosen, it's cropped to a square and then stretched/blown up when going to double wide tile size. Is there a way to actually use landscape pictures for double wide contact tiles other than playing with the original picture size to "fool" the application?

If you press it together into a square in for example photoshop or gimp it might work, but it will look bad when the person calls you or something...

I did that so the picture looks good, but then when it "flips" you see black bars on top. I just found a different picture.
