Driving Mode - What's it supposed to do?

Hello guys,

I have an EU Nokia Lumia 520, running developer preview and I have a question about Driving Mode and what's it supposed to do.
Is it's only function to silence my phone while I'm driving? Or is there something more to it?

I drive a Peugeot 308 and it has Bluetooth which I use to automatically connect my mobile to my car and receive/make calls or stream audio.
Does having a Bluetooth connectivity between your car and your phone make Driving Mode obsolete?

Am I missing features here?

It allows you to automatically respond to texts and calls to let people know you're driving.
I had a quick look at it but never used it because I don't drive.

So, it's completely useless for people with Bluetooth connectivity/hands free capabilities that are able to answer calls?
Meh, going to disable it. I thought there was some sort of speech to text / text to speech feature to read incoming text messages or something.

I have L920 and citroen C4 and it works. whenever I get message Lumia tells me about it thorugh speakers and gives me an option - ignore or read.

That feature is already available under Settings > Speech. You can have it read your incoming texts when connected to your Bluetooth device then speak and send a reply.

Whatever it is supposed to do, it does not appear to be working. I have a Lumia 521 with the Developers Preview. I turn both settings on for Driving Mode (Ignore Calls) and Ignore Text), click on next and turn on both options (Text replies to calls, and Text replies for texts), and enter a message. I don't have any Bluetooth devices in my car, so I ignore the following screens.

I leave the app running and return to my start screen. If I try to call my cell phone from a landline phone, my cell phone rings. I thought this was supposed to stop any calls from coming through when it is turned on. Do I misunderstand what this app is designed to do?

That already exists.

The Driving Mode is a way to avoid distractions, while letting the other person know you are not ignoring them, but driving. I use it about 90% of the time I'm driving, it's a very nice feature. It ONLY works if you have Bluetooth, by the way (BT connection is what initiates it).

Driving Mode does not work unless a Bluetooth device is connected to the phone. Yeah, it makes no sense to me either.

OK, so I turned on my Bluetooth headset and sure enough, Driving Mode came on. However, this brought up another problem. I was unable to your my Here Drive app and hear the directions, because the headset turned off the Phone's speaker. Needless to say, I consider it unsafe to drive with a headset on - it is more important to hear the sounds around me when I am driving. So, I guess I have to find a BT device that does not turn off my phone's speaker. I really don't feel like carrying my laptop with me wherever I go.

Well, I have had the ability to drive hands free and text by voice for some time. It is not the point. I keep mine on when I am in the car for voice and text messages. First, voice calls still ring and I chose to talk or not. believe me, all because you can does not mean that you should. Some people do not need to be doing anything but driving. As good of a driver as I am, I still use discretion. Texts are disabled for two reasons... One, texting by voice is almost as bad as by hand... Concentration is lost. Two, no matter who is in the vehicle with me, I don't want my text read aloud anyhow... Then responding by voice is again just too much of a pain.

The cool thing about driving mode of the recipients that almost all that have received my auto text think it is cool, respect that I am driving, and all like the prompt response and understand that I will get back to them.

My 920 keeps Bluetooth on for music and directions. Driving mode has only made it better. Now, audio profiles to go with driving mode, like setting a volume for driving mode(s) vs non driving mode. And like driving mode, many othe Bluetooth headsets for lounging, working out, riding bike, etc. It would be nice to have a profile for each one

It is a killer feature that is getting WP some attention.

It,s good that you can talk hands free, but I prefer not to, and also prefer not to be bothered by the phone "ringing" when I am receiving a call. I would prefer Driving Mode to Airplane Mode due to the ability to send a message without disturbing me. Looks like I need to find a Bluetooth device that does not shut my speaker off on the phone. Any suggestions?
