Dropped 1020 screen-down on pavement

So, now I've got a bunch of what I hope is residue, but I think are more likely deep gouges in the touch screen. Still functions fine, but it looks ugly as hell. Is there any remedy for this or am I better off just sticking on a protector from here on out and being careful not to make it worse?

It looks helpful, but perhaps a bit too difficult to do on my own. They did mention service centers though-- how would I get in touch with one of those?
