On my wife's 950 and my 950xl we have started to see photos getting duplicated. One says it is 2 meg but 3000+ x something and has all the information like exposure and location. The other says it is 22 meg, but only 800x600 and doesn't have the extra information. What gives? I believe I set the option to not show OneDrive stuff on my phone so I don't think that is it.

Chewck camera settings, maybe you enabled the option Pics Format Jpeg + RAW (or DN)

are you on an insider build? Several have reported issues where duplicate photos are being shown (jpeg + high res jpeg/DNG)

I noticed that too, and it drives me insane.
The Photos app received an update and can now view DNG Files.
This causes the duplicate images.
22MB is the DNG file (you can even see it in the file name) and the lower one is the regular Jpeg.
The linking only happens with OneDrive.

For instance:
I take a picture, my camera takes the 22MP DNG and the downsized Jpeg. Both will be uploaded to OneDrive.
IF it is an HDR image, I get the additional brackets, too.
I end up with 5 identical pictures in my library with no way to filter them out.

I WISH Microsoft would add the functionality to OneDrive AND the Photos app to check whether I want DNG files uploaded AND shown....
Has anyone a fix for that?
Only Solution I found so far is copy the DNG files to my NAS from time to time. But that is tedious and I don't want to change camera settings all the time.

PS: Not on an insider.
My girlfriends Lumia 640 is on Insider Fast build and doesn't show this behaviour - but on the other hand I haven't seen her taking any pictures with HDR enabled. Must check that today.

Have you double checked that GPS Location is turned on in the camera settings and that you allow your phone and the app itself to use it?
Check the notification center for the "Location" Button and press and hold it for options.

Check if its turned on (can be turned off by accident) and that "Camera" is also allowed.

I just checked my photos - DNG, JPEG and the pic on OneDrive all have the location present when I used it.

Any chance anyone has figured out a workaround for this? It's been going on for a while now and it's really frustrating.

I really miss the days when stuff on Windows Phone just worked. Last few months with WM10 have put me about at the end of the rope with this platform.

I have just recently noticed it too and it drives me mad. I take jpg+ dng pictures by default and now gallery is full of duplicates. I tried to disable and then enable "linked duplicates" option multiple times but with no success. I hope it just photos app that needs to be updated and no hard reset will be necessary to fix the bug. Unless... its a feature :)

There is no solution for this - Microsoft needs to fix this by using the merge function for DNG and HDR Files as well as the onedrive pictures.
My solution for now: Every now and then I connect the phone to my PC, open up the camera roll folder and pull out all DNG files.
Same goes for my Onedrive. Just move all the DNG files to a seperate folder on OneDrive.

Really tiring and tedious - but it's better than 3 - 4 times the same picture ....
