Earbuds turn volume down on Lumia 928

Hello! So I have been using apple ear buds for awhile with windows phones and just the other day when they are plugged in all the way the volume on the phone goes to 0 and won't turn up, yet it works I unplug the buds and with the auxiliary cord in the car. Just wondering if it's the ear buds or my phone. The apple ear buds do have the MIC and volume control but they don't work with windows. Hoping its just faulty ear buds! Thanks in advance

Have you tried another pair of earbuds? Borrowed a friends?

Yes and it worked fine, plugged in mine and it happened within seconds, so I think it's just the ear buds!
