Edge on Windows 8.1

Has anyone figured out how to run Edge on a Win8.1 system? My IT department has not given the green light to move to Windows 10, and I'd really like to try the browser. Everything I've read says it can't be done.

Edge relies on stuff in win 10 it can't work on 8 try it on a vm
