The recent reporting has glossed over the key details of the youtube controversy. If you believe the WPC reporting, Google is insisting that that Microsoft make an HTML5 app. Microsoft is countering that this is not technically possible with the current API. This morning, the Verge reported that problem might really be about the ability to natively interface with video launched from a web container.

Based on your knowledge of the WP8/Youtube APIs, what do you think is missing to support this use case?

Thanks

Look at the original WP8 YouTube app, that's what Google wants you to have. HTML5 means Google controls the UI/UX.

Microsoft wants a better UX with native App. But in order to support what Google wants, Microsoft has to change IE to support interactions between browser window and native App (so that some contents can be offloaded from browser to native app controls) which is obviously not possible at this time.

It's nothing more than Google wants control. It's already been demonstrated that a native app can be great. I'm just thankful that they haven't gone after Metro Tube and the like.... Yet.... :straight:
