I do 7 hours a week on an elliptical and will continue to do so. I am one of the "broken runners" mentioned in the article:(

Yes, cycling fits into this as well to some extent. This us why it is critical to work your hip muscles each time you train.

I think a stationary bike is worse than an eliptical. I usually get discomfort on my tailbone when using it for more than 20 mins. With the elliptical, both my feet actually start to go numb (I get that prickly feeling in them) after 30 mins. I figured it was do to the stationary position my legs are in. I'm not actually picking up my feet. I since moved back to the treadmill, when it's available (we have a small apartment gym).

Is that the only time they get numb? Could be a disc issue if it isn't.

As far as the bike goes, of the seat is too high, you will get the discomfort you're talking about.

The thing in the foot could be coming from the angle of your pelvis. Without seeing you, on the surface that would be my guess. There could be an impingement somewhere causing that.

If you know a trainer you trust in your area, id get an eval to see if there's anything that can be done to help that.
