EU court rules that Skype's name is too similar to Sky network to claim a trademark

A European Union court has ruled that the name of Microsoft's Skype VoIP service cannot claim a trademark in the EU. The court ruled that the name was too similar to the Sky broadcast network.

I could somewhat understand the SkyDrive dispute. This seems ridiculous.

Skype has been around for quite a while.
Can't remember the year that Microsoft bought Skype.

I agree this does seem like a ridiculous ruling.
