Excited, but I'll pass. My reasoning.

So I'm really happy with the kind of changes they've made to the Surface line.
The better resolution. The 3:2 aspect ratio for pen support. The amazing kickstand. The bigger screen and more. Photoshop integration OMG this is my favorite. Whenever I talked to customers all I said is I wanted a bigger screen. 12-13' and I'd be a happy camper. My prayers were answered. The good news was there. I got excited! Then I heard the bad and now I'm not as excited as before.

HOWEVER

As excited as I am for this device there are several reasons that put me off from selling my Vanilla Surface Pro for this unit.

1) N-trig stylus.
So it's not so much the fact that it is N-trig. It's more of the 256 ppl comparatively to the 1024 on the previous versions. This is a HUGE step down for someone who does graphic design. This is why I picked up the surface pro in the first place. 1 button to open onenote isn't anything to brag home about.....

2) The 3:2 aspect ratio isn't bad when it comes to note taking. It's horrible if anyone wants to play a game on it. Not many games will support the awkward 2160x1440 resolution. I know this isn't a gaming machine at all, but I would play a few games on my surface pro in my downtime at school if I wanted to. Not only does this unit require more to run games cause of the resolution. It's aspect ratio isn't going to be supported by much of anything. I know this cause I have a 21:9 monitor. Only things that are coded well for the minority will work for it.

3) 4th Gen Intel with HD graphics. This is another thing that really bothers me. So this is the same HD graphics and the same processors that are found in the Surface Pro 2. So I would assume this machine would not run as efficiently in terms of speed compared to the SP2 cause of the higher resolution. Broadwell is going to be around the corner and this machine will seem outdated. At the very least I would ask for the Iris graphics to make this on par with Macbooks.

4) Too soon of a release. I should be happy about this, but because of it being so soon I'm going to feel like the Guinea Pig like I did with the SP1. The sheer idea that this came out practically 9 months after the SP2 is kind of a slap to the face. This device is coming out WAY TOO SOON. At least give it 1 year from your previous releases. If this thing came out by the Fall and release with Broadwell chips then I would've had no worries of a SP4. As it stands it seems like a SP4 is just going to come out and just improve on the cons of this unit; just how SP2 improved on the SP1.

As much as I want to buy this unit..... I know deep down that waiting for the next version would seem like it would improve everything I ever wanted in a surface unit. I think I need this in my hand to really sell me. As it stands. I'll stick to the SP1

Fair reasons. I think I have to go in on this one though because I ALMOST bought SP2 but held out, this is a pretty decent upgrade. The processor does bother me but probably won't get updated any time soon and the computer seems fast enough. I always wait for the next thing and this is exactly what I wanted, 802.11ac is fantastic. I really wish it came with a 16gb of RAM version though...

First off you haven't used the tablet and Microsoft's new totally flush screen. And you haven't used their stylus which they probably have worked immensely on. Secondly every review reports that its the best stylus they have ever used, and that it feels amazing. Thirdly they have a focus on architects, graphic designer, movie makers etc. even the head of ADOBE was present. The stylus will most likely blow the competition away.
As you said this is not a gaming device, and if you can play games on the Surface Pro 1, you will be able to play games here. And as this is no gaming device you wont need more graphics performance.

If you aren't going to buy it, why even make a thread whining about it.

I agree to a point,
  1. I thought a wacom point would be better but I am seeing positive chatter on the internet about the N-trig stylus in general (not in reference to the SP3)
  2. The chip set is close to be replaced by broadwell, but by the same token its a very robust chipset with the GPU being very fast. Haswell to Broadwell isn't going to be huge improvement but I see your point
  3. I don't consider timing and how it annoys prior owners as part of my decision matrix, the same thing happened with Apple when they quickly replaced one iPad model a few months after releasing the iPad 3.

All in all you have to decide which tool is the best for your needs and from your post you've vetted it out nicely. I'm still twisting in the wind trying to decide :D

You either don't read very well or you; re just a very big troll. I'm open to anything. The NTRIG was my biggest concern, but I'd have to try it out. The rest are small concerns, Right now it's a no until I can get my hands on one.

Sorry, but what can be misunderstood

I'm just saying, why are you complaining and saying its a deal breaker if you haven't tried it.

He said he's willing to try it.

But as of now, based on what technology currently exists out there, this is a downgrade for an artist that depends on sensitivity.

So unless there is a huge breakthrough in how 256 is now as sensitive as 1024, it's prudent that he takes the stance he does.
