Facebook App/Crash issue

It's been 2 days now that I noticed a problem with my facebook app. Every time I try to launch it, It will open and stay for about 5 seconds, then crash.

What device are you referring to?
What OS does your device have?
What type of Internet connection does your device have?

Yes, I have exactly the same problem (and so do numerous other people judging by a web search restricted to the past 7 days.)
Facebook app starts, but returns to the Start screen straight after displaying the news feed. It doesn't actually shut down -if you go to top left of screen (as you would to switch apps) it still shows there.

As far as I can see the only program installed in the past few days is an MS Office Pro 365 automatic update.

I saw this suggestion on another site
1) Uninstall/delete the app
2) Delete the folder in C:\Users\<$username>\AppData\Local\Packages for the app
3) install app

I didn't have anything Facebook related in the actual folder mentioned, but deleted every reference to Facebook in C:\Users\<$username>\AppData and subfolders.

Seems to have worked (for now anyway)

Fix turned out to be very temporary!

Facebook has now returned to original behavior - returns to Start screen immediately on displaying news feed.
