Yup. It has nothing to do with laziness and everything to do with economics. I'd also like to know why that is such a meme.

As long as people keep playing those Flash games and clicking on the ads that are presented along side them, those companies have no reason to pay developers to update them. Stop playing flash games, and they will get updated.

If you're speaking to cheesy banner ads you're correct. However serious Flash game development occurs using Actionscript, which is not a "lazy content creator" tool. It's not done in the basic GUI animation interface. HTML5 animations are Javascript-based. The visual assets are still graphics (as in Flash). HTML5 video is merely a collection of markup tags that recognize and properly render various video formats (ogv, mp4, Webm, etc.).
