forcing open on screen

So, I had this issue with my Surface RT. There are times when in Metro, the keyboard will not pop up. I was trying to add a memo to an item I bought on ebay and I could not get the on screen keyboard to pop up. I had to get my BT keyboard out to add the memo.

Is there a trick to force the on screen keyboard to pull up?

I think if you pull open the settings charm there's a keyboard button there

There is, but it is the different keyboard options. My DV8P is working fine right at the moment, so I can't test it.

well I just pulled it up, selected the Touch and Pen Input Panel and it opened, even without a text box in sight.
