Fresh Paint causing spontaneous shutdown and data loss?

My fianc? has a Surface Pro 4, and is having issues with Fresh Paint. Starting earlier this week, she will be working on some art and then suddenly (usually during more intense use) her machine spontaneously shuts down and she loses some of the progress that she has been working on. She is running the latest version of both Windows 10 as well as Fresh Paint. Getting this week's firmware update appeared to solve the issue for some time, but tonight it started again. Any ideas?

Is it just a random shutdown? Or is it a BSOD error?

Not sure what the issue was, but a later update fixed it.
