I am running Developer Preview 8.1 why cant I get update 1 my phone says it is up to date

Well, regarding the trouble GDR1 DP caused yet, I would say not in near future. Earlier this year MS was very ambitious and stated WP8 will receive at least two updates this year (GDR1 & 2). Indeed this is neccessary for at least getting close to other competing mobile OS'es. There's more than enough bugs to fix. But I fear they can't follow their roadmap and we can be happy if final GDR1 is available by the end of the year.

Lumia 620 from Vodafone Portugal, now unlocked, installing atm the 8.10.14xxxx udpdate 1. Gears running... lets see how it goes. Gonna read the changes and new stuff in update 1.

Well, if you go read the original article Daniel wrote outlining the update it says:

"Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 finished development in July 2014 and users part of the Preview for Developers Program are expected to receive the bits for the software in August 2014. General rollout to phones through an over-the-air update should begin by September."

Great I can finally finish up using the developer preview soon. Its been awesome to use for 8.1 and GDR1. GDR1 has everything I want so I can wait in line like everyone else for GDR2

I will be surprised if Denim will start rolling out in September. For me it's most likely in October.

When did the last DP build of Update 1 ship? Because if it was recently, then Demin won't go "gold" for a good few weeks after that (to allow the DP members to report all the bugs).

GDR1 DP become available 5 August I think, and the new phones will be available this month (in the second half my guess), so I doubt Denim will be available at the same time.

It's November, and I'm still in this damn waiting room, 4 months after Update 1 was announced.

This is really disappointing. Week after week of just waiting without any official word. After being with Windows Phone since the Windows Mobile running HTC HD2 I really expected better from Microsoft. I can understand carriers causing a delay, but at least the rollout for unbranded phones should have already started.

I am usually very patient with updates, but in this case we are past the halfway point of Q4 and still there is no word on rollout even starting for anybody.

Q4 is long gone.
At some point it needs to be stated that Microsoft has not kept its word. Saying "Q4" gave them a three month time slot and we could reasonably have expected it see it before the close of that "quarter". We are now well into the first month of the following quarter.
Q4 was an explicit statement. There has been no explanation of the delay. No new time schedule.
Even if 8.1.1 and Denim were too trivial to even bother installing they are still well outside the promised delivery date and so demonstrate poor customer response from Microsoft, at the very least.
