Gdr2 on the 630

I'm reading some conflicting reports on here regarding gdr2 on the 630,some claim they have it via the insider app.I did not go for the new w10 build this time around so I don't know if I can realm get gdr2 through it.

Can I get gdr2 on the 630 or is it even supported on the device ?

how can I get it without ending up with w10

Sometimes, you can.
Sometimes the phone downloads and installs Update 2 first, and THEN installs 10 after that.

I could be wrong, but Update 2 isn't meant as a place to stay, its merely a stepping stone to 10, and the phone will try to install 10 (then automatically) soon.

I wouldn't risk it just for Update 2, I don't think its worth the likelihood of eventually being upgraded to the not-so-ready 10 build.

i can confirm ...
i myself have the 630 and got the gdr2 via insider app ... it was a small update ...
i immediately uninstalled the insider app because i didnt want my phone to be updated to the WP10TP.
the only thing that changed is the way the items on settings page are aranged.

can you peek into phone update to see if its already prepping 10? or not?

no way dude ....
once it starts downloading there is no way stopping it ....
thats why i uninstalled insider app right after gdr2 ....
they posted it in here that the things are fixed so right after getting gdr2 it should give you the 10TP ...

How do you know when you have gdr2,surely if I update while on the insider app.It will update gdr2 plus w10 all in one go.Im too afraid to try myself in case I end up with w10

you will know that you're on gdr2 when you check your 'about' phone in the settings !
its not an all in one package ...
first you get the gdr2 and it gets installed and then only when the phone restarts and check for updates again the 10 comes in ...
so my advice is if you just want gdr2 install the first update and immediately remove the insider app ...

I got installed gdr2 on my 630.. Once ready to install gdr2, I uninstalled Insider app and installed gdr2, then I didn't got 10TP installed on my 630..
But I've found a bug.. Office hub isn't opening downloaded Office files.. So I'll be rolling back to 8.1 Update 1, and will miss the new Settings App layout .. And little improvements on battery and performance

I doubt whether it's 2 step process always. Because I tried , and the "show details" screen shows that it's TP Windows 10.0.12534.56. Now I don't
know if I say "download" it will first install 8.1 GDR2 and then proceeds to TP 10. Didn't want to chance, hence just left it as is and left windows insider program. My configuration is 720 with DP.

I think it depends on if you were running Windows Technical Preview previously or not. The first time I tried this on my Lumia 635 with TP, it went straight to Windows 10. I then restored the device back to WP 8.1 and just started the process again. It just finished the download of the first update and prompted me to install, it just said it was downloading another version of WP 8.1, so I'm hoping it is GDR2. Guess I'll find out shortly.

Well that first update installed Denim and not GDR2. It says that there is 1 more update that will need be installed in preparation to Windows 10. I'm trying that one now, hopefully it'll take me to GDR2.

Great to hear more devices and people are getting GDR2 fills me with hope my Lumia 520 may get it as WP10TP is very buggy.

Do not install Preview for Developers but only Windows Insider and uninstall it after the GDR2 update notification.

So are you saying for sure you think it works when you remove pfd and only use windows insider.I had pfd still installed when I last tried.Maybe that's where I went wrong.

No the Preview for Developers shouldn't affect anything. It's currently not doing anything.

Perform a hard reset after "upgrading" to Update 2 and it MAY stick.
You're really not supposed to be on Update 2 though, so everything is at your own risk.
