Get 1020 now or wait for 8.1 devices?

Got the 1020!! IPhone 5 16gb black for 1020 yellow with wireless cover charging case... yellow which I didn't want but couldn't pass up the trade. I got an extra $80 because of a few scratches on screen but they are very minor and cant see when phone screen is on. I'm super happy esp to be back on windows, but this lens...ohhh man its slick! Anyone recommend a case? I do not care for wireless charging so I can toss this cover in the drawer... something very thin but gives a good grip on phone.

Don't worry about the resistance of the phone. You can safely drop it, it won't break (obviously, don't go around dropping it on purpose!). Also...you should give wireless charging a try. Once you do, I can guarantee you that the only thing that will annoy you is the fact that it's NOT built-in on the 1020

If you still want a case, Daniel did a few reviews on several options.

They are cheap, they're good and more, they come in some pretty awesome colours in case you want to give some colour to the phone. I specially like the dark blue and the purple ones (I got those along with the dark red and black). But, again, Nokia is not Apple. Your Nokia Lumia will not break the moment it hits the floor (believe me, I've dropped my 1020 a few times and not a single scratch )

Went to my local carrier shop and only found the yellow and black charging cases, so I picked up the black since it would look nicer than the yellow on yellow (just not my preference). Those cases look nice but very similar to what I've got now, but yes some of those colors are sharp! I found the phone to be difficult to hold without any cover, this charging case helps a lot with flushing the lens and back. I'm really happy with this phone so far, can't wait for 8.1 to be officially released but I'm very good with Lumia black right now (got rid of my 920 tight before it came out). I originally went to iPhone because I thought I preferred the small size, definitely not the situation anymore man do I miss 4.5" and this OS is a pleasure even if the battery can't be inconsistent.

I am also in Canada. BestBuy is selling the 32GB 1020 and I'm pretty sure I'm going to go that route. I need to unlock it to use on Bell, but that seems fairly easy. BestBuy gives you 15 days to return the device if it doesn't work out. I plan to use a lot of Outlook/Office functionality as well as all the typical social media apps. I just need to confirm that there are no strings attached to the BestBuy return policy ... and that the device will function to my satisfaction for apps. Probably going to buy this weekend!

Well I would recommend against buying an x20 gen Lumia now, as the 930 is coming out and it's just the beggining of the new x30 generation.

I own a 920 and personally I would like to have a 930, but I'll probably wait longer (and dish out more cash) for the new version with a 41 mp camera like the 1020.

The announced one with an additional powerful front camera sounds tempting too.

In all fairness I'll have to wait to see the complete x30 product line. I think my ideal wp 8.1 phone would have the size of the 1520, the 41 mp camera and the enhanced 5 mp front camera of the selfie-centric Lumia.

I'd compromise with having a 930 which is an amazing phone and has a camera which is halfway to the one in the 1020. I'd even get a 1520 now, if it wasn't for the touchscreen problems I keep reading about.

Im definitely not in a rush and gonna wait for the newer phones...I'm just very unconfident of what canada will get in terms of devices. I guess I'll have to test out the 930 first hand to see if I like it. As far as gdr2 messing up the camera, it's possible the problem was only select 920s. Others on the board experienced same problems as me, but not everyone...possible gdr3 fixed the problems.

GDR3 improved the camera quite a bit, but I never noticed GDR2 messed it up. What are you referring to?

We were on a holiday in Venice for a week. My wife was taking photos with her Lumia 1020 and I with mine HS20 Fujifilm bridge camera.
After seeing the quality, vivid colors, sharpness of the photos on her phone I just ditched my camera in the hotel.
I'm not joking, this phone's camera is fkng awesome!

I doubt a better camera-phone will be released anytime soon.

I had a 920 and bought a 1020 off eBay for around 200$ and it works great, no contract, so I'm happy with it. Down the road maybe ill upgrade but this phone seems plenty good enough...just wish it had more of a battery.
