Getting hot and flat battery

I put the 520 on charge first thing every morning and it is rarely below 80% when I do but I charge it to 100% anyway.

Three days back I took it out of my shirt pocket around 2:00pm and it was dead. I was miles from home so could not charge it, but when I got back home, put it on the charger and sure enough it was totally dead - red battery symbol. I recharged it and it has been fine.

A couple of hours back it beeped for a few seconds and I checked and nothing was showing for text etc, so flicked it off and back into the shirt pocket.

About 15-minutes back I thought my pocket was on fire and pulled out the phone and it was really hot, I mean almost too hot to touch. It was on at the lock screen and when I flicked that up to enter the password everything was enlarged so I could only see 2, 5 and 8 so I whipped the battery out.

I let it cool down, put the battery back in and it is 58%. Currently back on charge and not even warm.

Any thoughts? Time to toss it?

Might want to try and see if a new battery helps. Or if you are on Preview for Developers might want to use the Software Recovery Tool and get the phone back to the official Software/Firmware version.

Thanks, battery is only 3 months old, bought from Nokia/Msoft and it is the stock win8.1 Cyan. Wifi is always off too and the plan has no data, just voice and text.

Anyone have sensible answers?
It has had 8.1 on it since the release of Cyan about 5-months ago. This overheating started three days back and nothing has changed since that Cyan install back whenever that was.
