Getting notifications on taskbar

I recently plugged in my 810 into my computer and the normal pop up comes up. I look into the General Settings area and checked is an option to display notifications from this device to the windows taskbar. I haven't seen it actually work, but im wondering if anyone has seen this before or if they have seen it work. Just a side note, I'm running 8.1 Preview Update 1

I've never heard of this, where is this "General Settings"? on the phone?

Are you using the Windows Phone App for Windows (desktop)?

Alright, I just checked this:

This is enclosed in an automatic prompt that happens when your phone is connected to your desktop. There is an option to change general settings alongside options to install/open the Windows Phone app for Desktop Windows and to explore the phone's files.

I for the life of me can't figure out why it doesn't work for any of the phones I own running win7/8
