Hi everyone,

in the last couple of days i had an idea how it would be possible to implement Glance screen's peek mode to handsets without display memory, but with a proximity sensor.

Basically, just like double tap to wake, this would track your proximity sensor, and would wake up the phone when you pull out your phone from your pocket, or you're playing jedi :) Since you gotta wake up these phones anyway just to check the time and your notifications, it wouldn't cost much extra battery power i guess.

I've sent a suggestion to the uservoice page with more details about the idea:
https://windowsphone.uservoice.com/forums/101801-feature-suggestions/suggestions/6980959-glance-screen-peek-mode-to-all-handsets-with-proxi

Do you guys think this would be possible? I really don't see anything against it, and it would bring Glance screen to both my 930 and 520! For me, even if I'd have the opportunity, I wouldn't pick the always on mode, would rather go for peek mode anyway, so this would be heaven for me :)

Yes, this is what I've been thinking as well. If you expand that to other phones with proximity sensors, each one of them can use a smart flip cover. Not sure if this can be done but lets say Microsoft adds a modified black screen like the Glance with only notifications and what not and turns the display brightness down. Since the 930 uses AMOLED, it would turn down most of its pixels but the text saving battery. This way a modified Glance can be achieved. BTW I'm not an expert so not sure if this is even possible, just a thought though :)

Having an AMOLED or an IPS display ain't really affect this feature, neither does the brightness level. The peek mode is only active for 5-10 seconds, therefore doesn't really matter what kind of display you turn on or what brightness level you set for this very few seconds. Currently you wake up your phone for only checking the time, so you press the power button to get to your lockscreen, which uses your main brightness level as well, so nothing really would change in that sense. Neither the battery consumption overall.
