Graphics Glitches in Lumia 1520

W

WPCentral Question

A couple months ago, I bought a Lumia1520 to replace an old Lumia 900 (with WP 7.8). I immediately upgraded it to 8.1 so I didn't use the phone at all before upgrading to the developer preview.

A few times a day, my screen will look washed out: A lot of system text will look like light gray text on less-light gray background, and all photos look like they've turned into a lower resolution. About twice a week (usually when unlocking the phone), the graphics will go insane, and look like an ancient 8-bit rendering or something like that (google the original cover to Billy Idol's old "Cyberpunk" CD for an example of sorta how this looks).

So my question is this: is this a known issue with WP8.1? Is it a known issue on the Lumia 1520? (Bear in mind that I didn't use the phone when I bought it other than to immediately put the developer preview and 8.1 on it. Since I was using a Lumia 900 before, I haven't used WP 8.0 at all). Or do I have a bad phone?

Could the 'washed out' look be due to having auto brightness turned on? I know that when I have my phone in the bright sun, I get a 'washed out' look, but it's because the auto brightness using a special contrast that is easier to read in bright light situations. If so, that is a feature not a bug :) If not, it might be time for a factory reset and a trip to the phone store to get it fixed/replaced. My 1520 does not have the graphical issues you are talking about, other than the auto bright feature. I hope you find a resolution.

Cheers!
