Hard reset Windows phone& WhatsApp backup

Guys I want to hard reset my windows phone as I want to make my phone ready for upcoming Windows 10 update if it comes but at same time I don't want to loose my WhatsApp chat history.I have Lumia520 with SD card support I have backed up WhatsApp through settings but I don't know how to reinstall the backup after I hard reset my phone as well as SD card? Also I don't know where the backup of WhatsApp is stored since I want to wipe my SD card too.

I don't think you'll get a windows 10 update. So IMO, that's a stupid idea.
Regarding WhatsApp, the backup is not stored in your phone but in a server. So when you reinstall WhatsApp, your messages will be downloaded. You just have to back up before uninstalling. That's it.

Whatsapp message database backup can be found on your sd card, you can simply copy that entire folder to your pc and before you setup your phone again, copy them back to the same place.
And yes even the 520 gets a update to wp10.
Ms wrote that every lumia running wp8 gets this update.

But after resetting Whatsapp messages were backed up but now my start screen layout was not backed up. I did backup my app settings before factory resetting.
