Hard reset

I'm planning to join WIP. Seeing the reviews I feel I should I hard reset after updating. Is there any way I can save my apps and games data?

Apps will be all wiped and downloaded from store automatically AFTER upgrade, because most of them are win10 version. If you saved gamedata on sd or OneDrive, you could find them there

I'd not worry about the hard reset unless something happens where you have to.

Some people will recommend a clean slate, some people are ok with using the upgrade process. I personally use the upgrade and only run a hard reset if and when I have to.
