Hardware is lagging behind the software in WP 8.1 for the first time

After 8.1 is released, for the first time with Windows Phone, the hardware will be lagging behind the software. Windows Phone 8.1 allows for high speed video capture, but there is no hardware out there (including the new 930) that can do 120 fps like the iPhone. So that means no slow motion video, which is one of the coolest apps on iOS.

That's a pretty niche limitation. It sounds like it would be fun but I don't know how many users are clamoring for it. Considering Nokia's commitment to imaging I'm sure we're not too far off improvements there, assuming current hardware can't achieve that FPS.

I thought it was niche too at first, but it's really tons of fun. It's just one more thing that's missing. It's a real shame because the camera is suppose to be one of the key features. In fact, I carry two phones and basically use my windows phone as a camera and gps. Here drive/maps is awesome, btw.

Lol, I wouldn't be surprised if the software is ready for the hardware at the request of Nokia ;) if it's been added in, more than likely hardware is in the works to use it.

How do you know that? It will depend on the software.

Nope, I'd say it's more hardware - if the sensor doesn't have the physical ability to record so many frames per second then obviously it won't work. However they might have done the same thing as they did with Bluetooth 4.0, and built it in in advance. I'd say the 930 and 1520 might have the hardware already

I was going to add that maybe the Lumia's with 20+ MP cameras could handle video that fast... If not at 1080p, maybe at lower resolutions like 720p or 480p???

It's not a function of resolution. It's how quickly (over time) the sensor can be read (scanned).

My real question is if the current hardware out (1020, 920, 1520 etc.) supports the 'project my screen' function with Miracast :P

Yes, it does support miracast. I've read an article.
Not supporting slow motion playback, doesn't make the lumia 930 have outdated hardware or whatever

Then get an iphone cos it sounds like you have iphone envy since you completely ignore the reframing tech Nokia has and the upcoming living images but lust after ios features.
