Has the GDR3 update been released yet?

I'm talking about the GDR3 Bittersweet Shimmer update. From what I have read from various articles, most suggest that the update should be released in early November.

I, however, do not get anything when I check for update on my phone. I'm on Lumia 920. Is the update actually up for anyone?

The gdr3 update hasn't gone live officially for most phones(though I think the HTC 8x and a couple Samsung have received it) but there is a developer program that makes it easy to receive it. The bittersweet shimmer update, now officially named "Black" is only for Nokia phones and has not been release ota to any phone. Only devices launched with it preloaded have it so far afaik.

Bittersweet Shimmer as it was known as is not coming out any more. Nokia and MS have teamed up to release the next update called Black which is Nokia & MSs update rolled into one.

My wife has an HTC 8s and last night her phone was updated to OS version: 8.0.10501.127.

Yes, it'll be a little while yet until your 1020 gets Update 3 (unless you go through the developer method which I have done). Your 1020 will receive the Nokia Black update as mentioned above. This update will include Update 3 (GDR3).

My wife has an HTC 8s and last night her phone was updated to OS version: 8.0.10501.127.

The HTC 8S and 8X have been given priority by MS and HTC. They had issues with GDR2 and many carriers decided to skip this update going instead to GDR3
