Well, maybe it's time to share this experience with you. I don't know if you should be worried or not, because it may happen.

My Lumia 720 is bricked, dead, kaput, gone, farewell my 720.

It's stucked with the double gear grinding and grinding endlessly. [No, it changed again: i tried to reboot it, and now it tries to boot but it gives me the symbol of drained battery, even if it was in charge for the whole night]

I had to reset it to factory setting, and the process didn't went well. Why had I to reset it? Let's start from the begin.

In the last weeks, I had some strange and worrying behaviours with my touch screen; randomly, my Lumia 720 started to vibrate like I was touching some button and Bing search came up, then the start screen, then Bing again until I pressed any key.

Yesterday, I was out in the green loving the beautiful italian landscape, and I tried to take some photos. But every time I tried to open the camera app, I was "redirected" back to the start screen. I tried to reboot three times, with no result. In the end, I had to factory reset the phone. And here we are.

It's a sad story, with no happy ending.

Ugh... is there any chance to get an replacement? Are you going to give a second chance to Nokia/WP8? ; )

I still do love Nokia e still do love WP8 :)
I will try to get it replaced and start over. As people say, "**** happens".

Just let be sure it doesn't happen a second time :)

There are multiple fixes for the spinning cogs issue. You just need to do a search, there are many posts within this forum on that very problem.

I encountered the problem about 2 weeks ago, after a hard reset. I solved the issue by doing a soft reset (power and volume down for ten seconds until vibrate), then when at the Nokia screen i pressed the following buttons in order > volume up, volume down, power button, volume down (one button at a time).

Within 5 minutes the spinning cogs stopped and i was returned to the welcome screen.

If this fails, there are other methods, just do a quick search.

A,b,b,a,select,start

Jk lol I used the Navfirm and Nokia tool reflash to get my white 920 back up and running.....it had the cogs of death for a whole week before I finally tried re flashing

I read some of the solutions below, and I even tried to download navifirm (based on a 920 thread I found). Sadly, it's a Windows-only software, and I have a Mac :D
I will try the button combination, but I've never been good at videogames :p

Ow..This is what I am saying..I have run a survey here about a month ago..but..nobody seems to care..

Its exactly the same problem I faced just now. What should I do. I have put the phone on charging. Will that help? :crying:

Soft reset the phone by holding volume down + power till it vibrates. If it doesn't work then try using NCS.

Have you tried a full factory hard reset: Power + Vol Down + Camera until vibration then lift finger off Camera button until phone boots and then follow instructions on screen.

same here bro..after i format my sdcard and factory reset, that gear grinding and grinding doesnt stop..i try hard reset my phone because my app(viber, camera 360,wechat and voxer) always crash..going back to home screen..I dont know if these is hardware or software issues. From now on ill buy Samsung phone because i tried it already and tested b4 going to WP.

i think dis lumia 720 had a hardware issues..im waiting for gdr2 update and if there is no fix ill be back in android phone(SAMSUNG galaxy s4)

Same happened with my phone. Whenever I press the camera button it takes me back to the main screen. Tried opening Panorama app same problem but when i tried BLINK app black screen appeared and at the top it was written touch to click, but nothing happened. Did a hard reset and it took like 1 hr. but same gears moving. Then tried pressing volume down and lock key for bout 10 sec phone restarted .But still same issue. Camera not working.

Any luck .

Hi Niharika,

I had similar issue, it seems a hardware issue (did u happen to drop the phone?)....

I got hardware fixed by getting it locally done (non nokia repair).
