Help with best way to get clean install of preview builds

Guys just did my first Preview install of WP10 (10512). I did the install over my original 8.1 software. I didn't use any of the restore features, choosing to just go completely new. The build seems pretty laggy on my phone. (Nokia AT&T 1520) I've read it was a smooth release and now wondering if there are some steps i should be taking before installing preview builds to insure I get the best / cleanest install possible. I'd appreciate any ideas from you more advanced guys out there.

The key is to install the newest build, then hard reset, and after that don't restore any backups.
