Here Drive+ useless as it drains battery.

Now, my battery life is pretty bad anyway, but when I try to use the Sat Nav feature (Here Drive+), the battery is dead in less than an hour, even when plugged into the car charger.

Is this the same for everybody?

Yes navigation is great but battery sucks :( , phone heats up too (I now that's because of continuous gps ) but I usually turn on battery saver mode on and turn of wifi , mobile data and Bluetooth when using here driver , I also switch to 2g mobile data connection , though I dot need any data connection , already downloaded offline maps so it's better to turn of mobile data and save some more juice.

Same here.. But there must be a work around for this. I don't know. But try downloading the maps for your region and do off line navigation. Maybe 8.1 will fix this problem.

I use a 2-3 amp dual USB charger for my phone in the car, and it handles playing music, Bluetooth hands free and Drive will little to no issues. Still have issues with the phone getting warm but that's a minor issue for me as most modern mobiles I've seen and used suffer from this to one degree or another.

Are you saying the cigar lighter adapter has two USB sockets, or the lead is two USB A into one microUSB?

Especially when not using preloaded maps navigation will require a lot of energy for any smartphone. Using a USB charger you must watch out for a few things, use at least a 1.5A charger and don't use a charger specific for iPhone as these will generally deliver less current to non iOS devices, you may thank Apple for that. I use navigation on my bicycle and with my 13000 Anker external battery which has a 2A connector I easily last a day away on the bike with also using cellular data for streaming music while on the road.

I'll come home with the phone fully charged still and the Anker about half way empty.

Are you using a 920? The battery usage in those are terrible. I had the same problem, would lose charge while charging and running nav. The 1520 can handle the job without even needing to be on the charger for short to medium drives.

As a shuttle driver, I usually use my 920 as a GPS. I gotta make sure my battery is fully charged b4 I use it. If it's at 50% it usually drains after heavy GPS usage and dies even when it's on the charger.

It can take two USB lead for two devices, I sometimes need to charge the headset with the phone simultaneously. I don't have the link to the charger as it's no longer sold but there are plenty of similar devices out there.

Yes, I'm using a 920. The battery life is shocking, excuse the pun.

I was on the app at the time which makes it harder to see the forum section. :) I'd have to say the 920 probably had some of the worst battery usage problems I'd ever seen in a smartphone. Luckily the 1520 ranks in one of the top spots, which feels nice after coming from the 920. I'm not sure how any of the other Nokias compare.

It is not the same for me.
With my 920 I can use Here Drive on long trips and the battery does not drain, it charges. With 1.2A car charger, downloaded maps and playing music stored on the phone. Three tasks working in the background.

Like people had said before, use a charger that can provide your phone more amps, at least 1,2A/1200mA, I think this is enough. My own experience comes from a trip with a 625 with Navigon and a 920 with Drive+. The 625 were able to increase the power to the battery but not the 920, the charger that was used provided something between 500mA to 750mA, I don't know the exact number. I don't know if result depened on the phones or the apps.
