I just had issues with my new surface pro, and wanted to share my experience with microsoft support with you guys.
After several days of installing my software, my pen started to act up a bit. I googled, re paired it up, and kept having issues. I called it a night, started using the surface the next day, and all seemed well. After an hour or so, the pen started acting up again, and I was hearing those speaker click issues I'd read about on some apps, so I decided I'd use microsoft chat to try to resolve them.
The first gal I chatted with encouraged me to download all the surface pro 3 drivers and install them on a reboot. I even reminded her I was on a surface 4 pro, and she still insisted on me installing the surface pro 3 drivers. I downloaded them, it STILL didn't sound right to me, so I told her I was doing dinner, and I'd install them later. (And of course didn't)
The next day the surface again started out fine, and after an hour or so the pen started acting up again, so I chatted with them again, with a new agent. I told her what had transpired, an she confirmed that was NOT what to ddo, but sad she new how to correct the issue, and if I wanted she could take remote control and do it herself. Since she seemed to have a clue, I said ok and let her do it.
The next day, I STILL kept hearing the occasional popping, walked away to do lunch, and when I came back the surface wouldn't wake the camera up, an after a forced reboot, the touch screen was completely unresponsive to touch or the pen. I relayed this to microsoft, they they gave me "permission" to take it back to best buy for a replacement. (Though best buy didn't need any approval from them anyway!)
The replacement arrived, and I installed my programs yet again. The following day, when actually using it I still heard an occasional speaker click, but after googling, it seems that is a known issue they are working on, so I dismissed it for now. But after a few hours the pen stopped working one this new replacement system! That made no sense to me at all, so I started googling again, and came up with some possibilites to try to fix the issues, as I didn't want to give up n the surface. (I love it to death when its working properly!)
And lo and behold, I stumble across the cure! There was a reference to other electrical devices interfering with the surface pro touch screens, so I explored that possibility....
I had a plasma lamp on my desk, and after a time it creates interference with the touch screen, building until it becomes completely unresponsive! I turned it off, and Bam! Working just like normal!
I called best buy to let the geek squad know that the other system they had there was probably working fine for reselling it opened boxed, and since then have found out even a led lamp can interfere with the touchscreen.. I have one that has 60 micro leds in it, and that caused the same issue as the plasma lamp.
Why microsoft didn't even ask before mucking about about other electrical devices is beyond me, and why a trained support person would try to install drivers for an older model on a new model is also beyond me, but I'm tickled that at least my issues are resolved!
Sorry for the long read, but it is what it is...
