How accurate is the heartrate monitor on Band 1?

WPCentral Question

I do a long exercise walk about every other day, wearing my Band 1. Sometimes my bpm shoots up to 150 and beyond during a normal walk. Of course when the band shows 150 + the calorie burn increases exponentially. How accurate can that be? I could understand running or jogging and getting those kind of heart rate readings but i want an accurate calorie burn display when I walk. So I guess I really want to know if my calorie burn readings are accurate after a long walk in excess of an hour and a half. Sometimes it reads in excess of 1700 calories burned!

My understanding is that the accuracy of heart rate monitors worn on the wrist can vary based on the placement of the sensor relative to certain muscles or muscles. Meaning that the tightness or looseness of the band around the wrist could play a role in the accuracy. That's just my understanding. Here's an interesting article by Rubino about the heart rate monitor.
