How can I get Cortana to open in listening mode?

Open in "listening" mode

Is there a way to get Cortana to open in listening mode on my L640? I don't have the "hey Cortana" option available due to my phone's chipset, and don't like to fumble around for the microphone icon while driving. Thanks in advance...

Can you not hold down the search button with on-screen keys? That's how I do it.

You can also single click the mic in the task bar if using a mouse.
