How can I move from Gmail to Outlook?

Move from Gmail to Outlook

I would like to leave Gmail (Google) and solely use Outlook. (Microsoft)
I already have a outlook account and have synced my Gmail with it when I got Windows 8 a few years ago.
Is it going to be best just to cancel my Gmail account and get a new email address and just use Outlook.
Then how would I make those changes. My Microsoft account uses my Gmail address as a user name

I did the following:
Back up everything.
Back it up again, somewhere else.
Forward all gmail to outlook.
Put an out of office type message on gmail advising of the outlook address.
Disconnect any devices, clients etc from gmail.
Stop any syncing.
Migrate contacts, calendars and mails across.
Change email addresses in any automated systems that mail you.
Connect phones etc to outlook.com.
Wait a couple of months til you're sure everything is cool.
Do a full data export of all google data.
Delete that Google account.

I then set up a new google account to receive emails for forgotten passwords etc.

Using a gmail address as a Microsoft username isn't a problem.
But personally I'd set up an alias in the outlook account, then make that the primary user name.

Sorry, Laura... I proved that is a fallacy. You CAN change the email address showing on your Microsoft Account without resetting your phone and setting up a new Account.

I wonder if you guys can help. I've configured both my personal Gmail accounts to outlook in WP 10 but can't get the accounts to sync..any ideas?

Any error message?
How configured? IMAP? IMAP active in the GMail settings?
