How do I delete message threads completely?

I had message back up turned off and yet when the same person messages me again, all the past thread shows up. I have lumia 1020 with windows phone 8.1 on it. Help is appreciated. Thanks

Go to Messaging and delete the thread for this particular person from it. Your back up may be turned off (so it should not be in the servers anymore) but your thread may still be in your phone.
