How do I hide the navigation bar on Lumia 950?

The Lumia 950, as you know, does not have capacitive buttons for back, Windows, and search. As such, the navigation bar appears at the bottom of the phone. Sometimes it hides by itself, but I have not found a way, unlike the HTC One M8 for Windows, for you to hide the buttons at will. This is especially troublesome when text messaging and I think I press spacebar, when in reality I pressed the Windows key. Even more troublesome that the Messaging app is so unreliable that when I return to it the app crashes. So how do manually hide the navigation bar at the bottom when I want to?

Swipe up from the bottom of your screen to access the Nav bar from almost anywhere on your phone. To hide the Nav bar, tap the down arrow

You turn the navigation bar on/off by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. How did you hide it on the HTC One M8?

There is no downward arrow on the Lumia 950, but the swiping gesture worked. Can't believe I didn't think of that, thanks!
