How do I open email if there are new unread SMS messages?

Not sure if this is a Treo-specific behaviour, or common to WM...

The messaging interface insists on taking me to SMS, if there are any unread messages in there - if I want to check or compose and send an email, I can't find any way of getting there without first letting it take me into SMS and reviewing all of my unread messages, then closing messaging and going back in again to get offered the choice of messaging options.

Is there a way to launch the email client directly, even if there are unread messages in SMS?

There's an answer in the thread you started at TreoCentral. Basically, once you open messaging, using right or left on the dpad will cycle you through the messaging options (sms, outlook, hotmail, etc.) without having to open anything in any of the lists of messages.

You can also use your finger and swipe across the screen and you will toggle through the different options
