Hey,
instead of an SSD, the Surface 2 uses a eMMC Flash module as a hard drive. First I thought my USB 3.0 Hard drive was broken, because it copied movies very slowly to my Surface's hard drive.
But then I checked for the writing speed of the Flash module, and I find it a bit disappointing, only 31 MB/s. USB 3.0 does only make sense, when you copy something from your Surface.
Do you have the same speed? You have to write the following command in your console:
winsat disk -seq -write -drive c
