How Future Proof is The Lumia 920?

Since it is a 2012 flagship,will it be as future proof as 2013 flagships like lumia 925,1020,icon and 1520??? The Phone is just awesome.

Well, we're getting Windows Phone 8.1, so I'd say that's pretty good. I'll be eligible for an upgrade from my carrier in less than 2 weeks, but I'm going to stay with the 920 for now, since it's getting WP8.1.

I just bought my 920 last month. It was a device that someone else previously owned. I was confident enough that it was worth buying that I didn't wait to get something new from my carrier.

I don't think we should be worried about the future-proofing in Windows Phone 8 imho. Since the phones are gonna get supported upto either 18 or 36 months, unless you are a spec-crazy person, it wouldn't matter.

Though I guess, since 1gb norm would be established, it wouldn't matter feature wise as 920 and 820 are solidly covered. One has to ponder about 520/620/720 only.

Considering there are few WP owners in the US I doubt that'll be a drag on the app market. Still, the spec wars are not a major feature of the WP experience as WPs work well even at the bottom end. So long as you have 1gig of ram you're likely to do fine for a long time to come. My 820 is still pretty perfect, if only it had more app space. WP8.1 should solve that for me (with SD offload) but the 920 has lots of room anyway. Still, it is interesting that an 820 with WP8.1 will get a massive storage boost, possibly making it even better for gaming than the 920 is now. It all depends on the effect placing apps on SD will have on speed.

That's one of the reasons I chose wp8. Even if it was an top notch android it would have been outdated in a year and wont receive future updates.

and if it is true that wp8.1 will have usb on the go, that would be perfect for phones without sd card

I bought my yellow 920 months ago (used buts perfect condition), and love it. Its a great phone, with future updates, so yes its Future Proof. And 925 its only slight updated 920, nothing special ( only design) and have smaller memory (16GB vs 32GB)... I have now free 15GB and installed many apps and games, my whole music collection and many photos.... So i dont care about storage, 32GB is future proof

Yeah. Just my yellow 920 has back scratches. The phone is beautiful. The scratches have ruined it sorta. Very expensive shell :/

i have some scratches on cover too, but on yellow version you can see it only with good angle and sun...
On displej i dont have screen protector and dont have any scratch on it.

Mine are deep scratches so yeah noticeable. 920 with wp8.1 is gonna be legendary!

I will keep my Lumia 920 as long as it can survive , I know future updates from Microsoft wont make it laggy\jittery , as Lumia 920-925 share same hardware both of them will get equal support and updates , now next iteration of windows phone 8 is around the corners , there is still no successor to Lumia 920-925 as of now

The 925 is a thin, metal 920. The 1020 is the 920 with a massive camera. Those 3 run on the same SoC, meaning the CPU an GPU (the main parts of the phones) are the exact same.

The Icon and 1520 share a newer version of the 920/925/1020 chip, so they're going to perform much better.

But that performance isn't noticeable without benchmarks. I think wp works equally smooth with lower or higher specs

Depends on how you define future proof. Hardware wise, the 92x series of phones is getting long in the tooth. While the Snapdragon S4 chip-set is still quite powerful, it has been superseded by the 600/800 series. Then again MS is promising us quite a long support cycle, so as far as software is concerned, we should get quite a bit more mileage out of our phones. I predict that as higher ram spec phones come out, more and more devs will start dropping support on the 512 mb phones. But, by that time we should have all gotten new phones.
